Adoptions

Delta Humane Society SPCA Pets for Adoption

Every animal before adoption receives a medical and behavioral checkup, their vaccinations, and is spayed or neutered. Our dogs and cats are looking for their forever homes.

We are a no-kill shelter and we strive to find homes for all of our furry friends. If you are interested in a short-term commitment, consider fostering some of our animals. Or perhaps you may be interested in being a foster family for our kittens and puppies. In addition, we need to foster families for our senior animals who need hospice (end-of-life) care.

SURRENDERS

  • Found or surrendering an animal?

DHS & SPCA of SJC accepts owned cats and dogs by appointment only due to limited space. For stray animals, contact or take them to the local animal services facility for the area. To schedule an appointment, complete an Owner Surrender Form for each animal by following the button to the right.

  • Why are appointments required?

To ensure resources are prepared, Delta Humane Society requires a scheduled surrender appointment. This process helps manage the daily intake of pets and ensures the best care for each animal by allowing time to prepare the necessary resources.

  • Requirements for Appointments

If scheduled for an assessment, please note the following:

    • Bring your pet to DHS Adoption facility as instructed.
    • Staff will evaluate your pet to determine suitability for our re-homing program.
    • Provide proof of ownership, such as veterinary records, adoption papers, or a bill of sale, dated at least 30 days in the surrendering owner's name.
  • Requirements for Acceptance

If your pet passes the assessment and is accepted for re-homing:

    • Vaccinations will be updated if needed.
    • If your pet is not spayed or neutered, surgery will be scheduled, and you must handle drop-off and pick-up.
    • Be ready to take your pet home until space becomes available on the adoption floor, which may take up to three weeks.
  • What are the surrender fees?

Be prepared to pay the applicable surrender fee. This fee will help us to care for your pet. If you cannot afford the surrender fee, please let us know and we can work with you to find a solution.

  • What if I don't want to make an appointment or would like other options?

If you don't want to schedule an appointment, we will refer you to other rescues and shelters or provide rehoming information to help you rehome your pet yourself. You can find the listing of other shelters located in San Joaquin on the resources page.
